Materials & Care

We are committed to providing high-quality jewellery crafted from durable materials. To ensure that your jewellery remains as beautiful as the day you received it, we recommend following our materials and care guide.

Stainless Steel

Our jewellery is meticulously crafted from 316L stainless steel, recognised as one of the most environmentally-friendly metal options in the jewellery industry. The manufacturing process involves significantly lower energy consumption and waste generation compared to alternative metals used in jewellery production.

Additionally, 316L stainless steel is endlessly recyclable, contributing to a sustainable and environmentally conscious approach. This material is an excellent choice for jewellery due to its strength, durability, and hypoallergenic properties. Unlike other metals, stainless steel does not tarnish or rust, eliminating concerns about jewellery discolouration or deterioration.

While stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, it's best to avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals, such as bleach or chlorine, which can damage its finish. We also recommend storing your jewellery in a dry and clean place when not in use.

Gemstones

We use a variety of precious gemstones at The Luna Spot. These include cubic zirconia, semi-precious stones, moissanite and lab-grown diamonds. The gemstones used within our pieces are generally very durable and are safe for wear in water. However, this does not mean they are indestructible. Certain gemstones are more vulnerable to damage than others.

We recommend regularly cleaning your gemstone jewellery with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. For a deeper clean, use a mild soap and water solution, and then rinse and pat dry.

Also ensure to take caution when engaging in activities where your jewellery may come into contact with hard surfaces. When in doubt remove your jewels to ensure they stay intact.

Freshwater Pearls

Freshwater pearls are a soft gemstone but if you take good care of your freshwater pearl jewellery, they can be a long lasting treasure.

Pearl jewellery can be damaged by many chemicals and all acids. This includes perfume, cosmetics, hair spray, and even perspiration. It's for this reason your freshwater pearl jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

We recommend using a soft, damp cloth to remove oils and perspiration after wear. Use a mild soap solution for occasional deep cleaning. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

Store your freshwater pearl jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep them separate from other items to prevent scratching.

Sterling Silver

Although the majority of our items are crafted from stainless steel, we have carefully selected a few pieces to be made from 925 Sterling Silver, given its widespread popularity.

Sterling silver is a harder material than gold and provides long-lasting durability to jewellery pieces. Most silver jewellery is combined with other metals, such as copper, zinc or tin, and has a coating of rhodium to inhibit tarnishing. The inclusion of stronger metals makes silver jewellery resistant to scratching and wear.

Silver jewellery can be worn every day, and will last forever if treated with enough care. However, you should avoid scratching silver pieces against hard surfaces, and clean them with warm soapy water if you spot any tarnishing.

  • Avoid Vigorous Activities

Take off your jewellery before doing any vigorous activities that could pull or catch on your items. Consider taking off larger/ heavier pieces before sleeping or sports just to be safe.

  • Regular Cleaning

Remove dirt and oils by cleaning your pieces with a soft cloth or a jewellery cleaning solution. We include a Luna Spot microfibre pouch in every order. This pouch doubles as a polishing cloth for your pieces.

  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Try to avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals, such as bleach or chlorine, which can damage its finish.

  • Storage

Always store your jewellery in a dry and clean place when not in use. Consider using a jewellery box or place them in your Luna Spot pouch to prevent scratches and tangling.
